Two for One!

Monday Update from Ani, Ella, y Julia

Hola familias! We started the day at the Itáca school and had Spanish class. In Ani and Ella’s class we had a debate (all in Spanish) on which musical artist is better: Lana Del Rey or Bad Bunny! And in Julia’s class we did a Kahoot on our knowledge of the Alhambra. After class, we ate lunch in the park with our friends. After lunch, we went home to nap and get ready for the night. At around 5:30, we grabbed sandwiches in the Plaza Nueva and then took the bus to Sacramonte, a town we explored with our tour guide Laura. We saw beautiful views of the mountains and the Alhambra in the sunset. The tour landed us at our event for the night: Flamenco Dancing! We were lucky enough to experience an intimate and captivating performance by professional flamenco dancers; they danced only inches away from us! After the performance, we took a bus home and ended our night watching Princess and the Frog, or “La Princesa y el Sapo”.
Hasta luego!

Tuesday Update from Max, Zack, y Luke
We started the day at Itaca language school learning about the most important Spanish holidays (such as La Semana Santa and La Tomatina, which involves an all-out tomato-throwing battle). After learning about these holidays, the other Spanish class improvised two plays—entirely in Spanish—based on prompts chosen by the teacher. In our class, we had a debate (also in Spanish) about whether or not bullfighting should be legal in Spain, with the pro-bullfighting group arguing that it is an important Spanish tradition, while the anti-bullfighting group argued that bullfighting is just glorified animal cruelty. After Spanish class, we spent our 3 hours of free time walking to the city center, stopping to eat bocadillos, and exploring the shops and alleyways of Granada. We arrived at Plaza Nueva at 3:30 for our tour of the Albaicín (led by Laura, a wonderful guide willing to answer all of our ridiculous questions). In the Albaicín, we stopped at a tea shop before heading through the winding streets of the neighborhood to a vista overlooking the Alhambra (Bill Clinton famously stated that the sunset here was the best he had ever seen). After the tour, we spent some more free time roaming the city, and then ran to catch our bus home just in time to watch Man City humiliate RB Leipzig in a 7-0 game of fútbol.
