Wednesday Update from April and Amba
Today was our first day taking lessons! At ITACA, we practiced speaking Spanish by sharing about our interests and homes in NYC. We got to meet our excellent new teachers, Christina and Raul. During lunch, we we explored the school’s surrounding area. Our current favorite congregational spot is a local playground. After lunch, we took a bus to the city center. We participated in a scavenger hunt that required us to ask strangers for directions, which was scary, but good practice. After, we went on a tour of La Capilla Real de España. Our tour guide Laura guided us through the history of King Fernando and Queen Isabel. Before we returned home, we had some free time to explore the city.
After our excursion in the city’s center, we came home and met our neighbor and her two toddlers, one of whom speaks English. We then helped our host mother chop onions, tomatoes, and lettuce. Finally, we ate burgers together as a family and discussed our travels and exchange programs.
(And there were marches to commemorate El Día Internacional de la Mujer!)
